Filmmaker, Remi Vaughn, believes that there has never been a more urgent time to make this documentary series. In her professional life as a cybersecurity professional, Remi has seen how technology has become more complex and pervasive with the rapid advance of artificial intelligence, robotics, machine learning, and supercomputers. 

Technology is fueling greater violence and conflict in the world with the deployment of more sophisticated and destructive weapons. Technology is harvesting our natural resources faster than ever before in even the most remote places of our planet. Technology expands our disposable and consumerism society through mass production of anything and everything. With technology, all that we create, in any shape and form, becomes obsolescent in a nanosecond, before our human brain has time to make meaning of these creations, except one of immediate self-gratification.

Remi, like many other people she works with, can feel it in her bones: we, humans, are becoming more and more obsolete. Our logical mind understands that technology has the potential to solve any problems thrown in our path – but deep inside, there is this deep-seated fear that, along the way, we are losing our humanity.

Remi’s vision with Tales of Transformation is to create an art piece that bridges the gap between the amazing benefits of technology to our everyday lives and the darkness that such technology can bring to human civilization. The piece will focus on these artists who have taken it upon themselves to create beauty out of the discards from our technology. With their artwork, they are attempting to make themselves – and all humans in the process – relevant by preserving our heart and soul.
